FAQs

Find answers to frequently asked questions about the services offered by Genren.

The cost depends on the system size, typically ranging from £7,000 to £12,000 for a typical residential installation (4-6 kW).

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) allows you to sell excess electricity back to the grid. There are also potential grants, VAT relief, or incentives available.

Savings vary based on the system size and energy consumption. On average, homeowners can save between £200 to £400 annually. Many of our clients produce more power than they consume, so have a positive net income from their panels and therefore a shorter payback period.

This depends on panel capacity, location, and sunlight exposure. In the UK, a typical 4 kW system can generate around 3,400-4,000 kWh per year.

Most panels last 25-30 years with warranties usually covering at least 20-25 years.

Maintenance is minimal. Cleaning may be necessary every couple of years, and depending on local dust and dirt conditions your equipment may need an inspection at the same time.

In most cases, solar panels fall under “permitted development.” However, planning permission may be required for listed buildings or properties in conservation areas.

Typically between 10 to 15 years, depending on electricity savings and income from excess energy exports.

It is possible but not recommended. Professional installation ensures safety, optimal performance, and adherence to building regulations.

Solar panels still generate electricity during cloudy days, but output is reduced compared to sunny days. In winter, production decreases due to shorter daylight hours.

Installing a battery can store excess energy for use during nighttime or power outages, enhancing savings and self-sufficiency.

Standard solar systems shut down for safety during a grid outage, unless paired with a battery system that has an automatic backup feature.

Solar panels can increase property value by reducing energy costs and adding an eco-friendly feature.

South-facing roofs are ideal, but panels on east-facing or west-facing roofs can still be effective. North-facing roofs are typically not recommended.

Look for installers certified by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and check for membership in industry bodies like the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC).
